Deutsche Beteiligungs AG strengthens team with expert for finance and controlling

Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 28 August 2017. Deutsche Beteiligungs AG (DBAG) expands its circle of industry experts. As the Industrial Partner Finance & Controlling since July 2017 Dr Robert Christian Schmidt (37) has been providing advisory support to the DBAG investment team in selecting, reviewing and supporting portfolio companies. In particular he provides DBAG with his experience, knowledge and contacts from his activities as Chief Financial Officer and his comparable responsibilities in deal sourcing and portfolio monitoring. This strengthens DBAG’s network of experienced managers.

After graduating in economics, Dr Schmidt began his professional career as head of strategic group controlling at Demag Cranes AG, which was initially owned by a private equity fund and was later floated on the stock market. He subsequently worked for a management consultancy firm focusing on private equity-led companies. At the same time he completed a doctorate in economics (University Witten/Herdecke). From 2010 he worked for the Spheros group, most recently as chief financial officer; Spheros was in DBAG’s portfolio between 2012 and 2016. In addition to his practical activities, Dr Schmidt also undertakes teaching posts at universities, for example, in strategic and operative planning.

“In Dr Schmidt we have an expert to complement our network who has excellent current expertise in issues of finance and controlling,” said Spokesman of the DBAG Board of Management Torsten Grede today. He added, “It will allow us to identify even more quickly the development potential of new companies in our portfolio. We are strengthening our position in selection and reviewing potential investments, which is particularly important in the current competitive environment.”
